~+Pre Order+~ Turnip King's "Laika" LP + Video
Turnip King is a four piece originally hailing from Sea Cliff, New York. While still in High School Fire Talk released the band's debut EP "Moon Landing?" Shortly after the four founding members Lucia Arias, Cal Fish, Nick Kivien and Christian Billard departed to pursue various "life" journeys. Cal & Christian attend BARD a liberal arts school a few hours north of New York City. Lucia stayed in the city and Nick left the band to form Sunflower Bean another up & coming young band signed to Fat Possum Records. "Laika" is the debut full length written in between class sessions and fleshed out in a fairly brisk week long recording session in a legendary studio in NYC. Now joined on bass by Ken Winfield Turnip King is poised to break. Think Matador era Helium goes back to art school with the internet.
Tiny Mix Tapes has shared the video for album cut "Metonymy",
The joggles are not so boggling… in part, because of the video’s content, mainly plain-and-simple here-it-is Our house / In the middle of the street content (but wait, is that Laika holding an American flag in his mouth?), made plainer by low saturation… in part, because of the sheer volume of fast-forward glitches, jumps, video feedback and magic tricks… in part, because of the sleepwalkin’ and heady drift of the music, which bypasses any disquietude.
