Bnny Share New Track / Video "Sure" From Debut Album "Everything"
Chicago-based band Bnny, led by Jess Viscius alongside her twin sister Alexa Viscius, plus best friends Tim Makowski, Matt Pelkey, and Adam Schubert, present a new single/video, “Sure,” from their forthcoming debut album, Everything, out August 20th on Fire Talk. Following “Ambulance” and “Time Walk,” “Sure” is an album standout, as Jess’ voice cool voice blankets waltzing guitar. She circles around the titular word, testing its meanings and applications—“sure” as a positive affirmation, “sure” as a guarantee, “sure” as an exhausted acquiescence—and finds a weakness at the core of each of them. “‘Sure’ is about love and it’s loss,” says Jess. “‘Sure’ is about apathy and denial. It’s about disillusionment in the wake of death. It’s about finding strength and meaning in the steadfastness of nature.” The accompanying self-directed video was shot at Cole’s Bar in Chicago, and is a country western-inspired unrequited romance.

Everything, the debut album from Chicago quartet Bnny, may as well be a field recording taken from the lone country of grief. Written in sessions that span several years by singer Jess Viscius as she processed the death of her partner, the album is a chronicle of love at its most complex and loss at its most persistent. In the same vein as Sky Blue Sky-era Wilco or the harrowing vulnerability of Tomberlin or Helena Deland, Viscius’ songwriting is evocative and intentional. A longstanding member of the Windy City music scene, the album was produced by Dehd’s Jason Balla, and the sparse arrangements pick apart complicated truths while feeling both timeless and transcendent. Everything is out on Fire Talk (Dehd, Deeper, Pure X, Mamalarky).
