Fran Returns With New Single "So Long"
Fran, the Chicago-based project from Maria Jacobson, released their debut LP, A Private Picture, on Fire Talk Records in November of 2019, which garnered praise from Pitchfork, NPR Music, Stereogum, Paste Magazine, The Chicago Reader, and many more. Fran is returning today with the new single “So Long”, Jacobson’s first new music since the release of her debut. On “So Long,” Jacobson digs deeper into the indie-folk she played with on A Private Picture. Her showstopping vocals at the fore, “So Long” is a heartwrenching song about the distance we create with the ones we love when our relationships find themselves in turmoil. The refrain of “I wonder where you’ve gone” rings out, clinging to you once the last chord dissipates. The music video accompanying the new single was inspired by Jacobson’s love of the Real Housewives series, interspersed with a jealousy-inducing garden bounty. Speaking to the single, Jacobson writes;
"So Long is about the gulfs that form in relationships: feeling distant emotionally and then trying to correct it with physical distance. It was written in a time of a lot of solo camping. The video is inspired by my favorite escape, Real Housewives."
