Mandy, Indiana Share New Track "Alien 3"
Mandy, Indiana are back today w/ a new track "Alien 3". The video is premiering via The FADER who says ""Alien 3" begins with a marching band-style beat that intensifies as it progresses, providing an ominous backdrop for frontperson Valentine Caulfield's dissasociated vocals."
Speaking about the new track, the band said "'Alien 3' is a dark tale of violence, defiance and rebellion. The words, almost whispered and monotone, are a declaration of power: I know what you're doing, the victim says; but I won't be on my knees anymore."
On the visuals, Scott Fair of the band, who also created the video said "I saw a clip of the video game Mosh Pit Simulator a while back and found it to be both very disturbing and very funny, and I loved that reaction so that was a jumping off point for the 'Alien 3' video. I used free software called Blender to make most of the animations, it's all completely new to me so I was like a kid in a sweet shop wanting to try everything and having fun with it. The other major component of the video is computer game glitches. Some true abominations are created when computer games go wrong and it's utterly captivating."

Mandy, Indiana founding members Scott Fair and Valentine Caulfield met when their previous bands shared a bill at Aatma, a venue in the heart of Manchester's thriving DIY music scene. The visceral punk poetry style of Caulfield's vocals - delivered in her native French - stuck in Fair's mind and when both of their projects ended some months later the two started discussing ideas. After witnessing liberating experimental sets at venues such as The White Hotel, Aatma, The Peer Hat and Studio B they began writing together with a view to capturing some of the excitement they were surrounded by and warp it with their own idiosyncrasies. The duo found a third missing piece in Liam Stewart (percussion), whose past as a touring member of Lonelady made perfect sense encompassing the band’s forward-thinking electronic gaze.

Intentionally raw production from Fair combined with a heady interest in the more macabre elements of literature and film (the band cites the work of filmmakers and writers such as Gaspar Noe, Leos Caraz and Irvine Welsh as inspiration) come together to present a vision that skews the lines between post punk and the rave. True to the grit of Northern England, Caulfield’s vocals in her native French contribute an immersive layer of performance art and poetry that bring the spirit of the avant garde to life. Slipping in and out of the abrasive qualities of noise, industrial and techno, their music recalls essential live acts such as Giant Swan and Minimal Violence as well as the unconventional guitar work of Girl Band and Housewives.
With debut single for Fire Talk “Nike of Samothrace,” Caulfield draws on her insistent vocal execution to deliver an experience that feels similarly compelling and cathartic, complemented by razor-sharp, intensive production from Fair and Stewart’s progressive drumming.
"We wanted Nike to be like a blunt instrument, both lyrically and musically. It's purely brute force, gouging away with all dials turned up full, including the gutteral bass line, which was inspired by Thomas Bangalter's score for Irreversible and Hans Zimmer's score for Blade Runner 2049. We're very much driven by rhythm and movement and also wanted to experiment with a Liquid Liquid style percussive breakdown, we love when genres and dynamics are smashed together in an untidy way... we love to butcher things."
