ira glass Release New EP 'joy is no knocking nation'

ira glass is “Chicago’s best new posthardcore band” (Chicago Reader). Today, the inscrutable quartet of Lise Ivanova (vocals/guitar), Landon Kerouc (drums), Jill Roth (saxophone), and Kaleb Wallace (bass) will release their sophomore EP, joy is no knocking nation, via Angel Tapes / Fire Talk. Earlier this week, ira glass presented its final advance single and accompanying video, “that’s it/that? that’s all you can say?” EP closer “that's it…" is ira glass at their most guttural, with Ivanova's screams more urgent than ever: "his precious girl // goes nowhere // tied down in the lot." Kerouac's percussion leaps off of his set, with hand claps guiding kinetic kit rhythms & strokes of saxophone toward an industrial end.

“that’s it/ that? that’s all you can say?” follows ira glass’ indomitable string of singles, which collected praise from Stereogum, Paste, So Young Magazine, The Line of Best Fit and more. ira glass will celebrate the EP’s release with a free EP release show at The Empty Bottle on Monday, November 18th.

ira glass craft a cacophony of noise, anchored by a timelessly punk ethos and propelled by poetically hyperspecific references. Following the release of their 2024 debut EP, compound turbulence flexing for the heat, ira glass built solid buzz for their unique blend of screamo, jazz and noise, and collected praise from The FADER, NPR Music, Sound Opinions, Paste and more. joy is no knocking nation is a 5-track outing that spans spoken-word spells and kinetic climaxes.
