Mamalarky Announce Sophomore Album "Pocket Fantasy", Share New Single "Mythical Bonds"
Today we’re thrilled to announce the new LP from Mamalarky!
Pocket Fantasy is the new album from Mamalarky available digitally and on 180-gram vinyl on Fire Talk. Mamalarky’s “tenderly tangled indie rock” (Pitchfork) has been heralded by Billboard, Nylon, Under the Radar, Vice Noisey and more, and FADER praised the "dazed indie-pop” of their recent collaboration with Benet. The new album expands on the unique sound of their self-titled debut, where some of the band’s purest pop takes collide with more warped and weird strains of quirky psych and kaleidoscopic guitars. Seasoned musicians who have played alongside the likes of Faye Webster, White Denim and Cherry Glazer as well as supporting Slow Pulp last fall, they continue to convincingly straddle together a myriad of genres to create melodic earworms that are impossible to categorize. “Mythical Bonds” contains some of the band’s most effusive and striking melodies, alongside chugging guitar work that effectively presents both sonic sides of the band to some of its most winning effect yet.
The band elaborates on Mythical Bonds: "We need more songs about friendship. In peak album-making mode we were churning out songs, at times to the point of delirium. So we decided to shake ourselves loose and make this serotonin rock song about how much we love each other–to push past all those hunched-over studio hours and create this little summer memento. At the time we were having a lot of pond, lake and pool-side hangs, laughter under the beating heat. At the end of those days all we wanted to do was come home and synthesize those feelings in our studio."
