Today, set dressing — the newly-minuted Mandy, Indiana side-project — releases i can’t be alone tonite, their debut EP out now via Fire Talk, and presents a music video for its title track. set dressing is an anonymous project represented only by an avatar, and today’s “i can’t be alone tonite” music video puts that avatar front and center. A nostalgic karaoke-style visual, the “i can’t be alone tonite" video sees set dressing dancing amidst classic art, granular nature b-roll, and an irresistible synth beat.
i can’t be alone tonite is a deeply atmospheric introduction from the mind behind one of the decade’s most acclaimed bands. Its five self-produced tracks span from instrumental drones to propulsive 80s-inflected scorchers, and invoke striking samples to create an entirely singular debut. i can’t be alone tonite marks the beginning of an unsettling journey, but it’s an adventure led by those familiar with treks toward uncharted territory.
The EP follows singles “date line” and “class valedictorian,” which together received praise from Pitchfork, The Needle Drop, Line of Best Fit, BBC6 and more.
