Starcharm is composed of vocalist/guitarist Elena Buenrostro (she/her), bassist Jasmin Feliciano (she/her), and drummer Amaya Peña (they/them). Born out of Buenrostro’s shuttered recording project Soft and Dumb, Starcharm presents a reconfigured line up and sound, and debuts with the kinetic energy of a new band’s first rush. Tracked in Peña’s Chicago apartment, “The Color Clear” combines post-punk guitars with pop structures and noisy impulses. “I’m not the one,” Buenrostro chants atop jangly guitars and steady bass, transforming the mantra into a no-wave scorcher.
