Mia Joy Shares "Saturn" Single and Video from debut album "Spirit Tamer"
Mia Joy, who has already seen cosigns from musical peers such as Sharon Van Etten (“I can’t wait to hear more”), is sharing her last single before her debut LP, Spirit Tamer, comes out on Fire Talk Records on May 7th. Mia Joy’s singles have been lauded by Stereogum, Paste Magazine, Brooklyn Vegan, Vice Magazine, The Chicago Reader, NPR’s WBUR and more. Her latest single, "Saturn", is an incredibly meditative track, and a very important one to Mia both because she recalls it as the first song she ever wrote and the track that most succinctly portrays her more ambient influences with it’s beautiful overlaid choral vocals and immaculately placed synths.“I am a practicing astrologer and It is written in the voice of Saturn, the planet of restriction, isolation, responsibility, hard lessons.” Mia Joy says, “It mockingly asks me how it has affected my life, makes me question my faith in humanity and inner loneliness. All running themes of the album.”
"the mesmerizing "Haha," rides gentle waves of subtly echoing guitar and synth; Joy's soothing singing sounds simultaneously warm and weary." - Chicago Reader
"washed in ethereal synths and brooding vibes as Joy takes a darkly comic look at daily life" - Vice’s Best Songs of January 2021
“You can hear influences like Sade and Grouper in Joy’s music...“See Us” reminds me of melancholic singer-songwriters like Sharon Van Etten and Cat Power as well” - Stereogum
"The track slowly pirouettes, as Joy’s pacifying voice cascades over reverb-soaked guitars and ‘80s-indebted keyboards...enveloping listeners with her contemplative charm" - Paste Magazine
