Why Bonnie Announces 'The Bedroom' EP & Presents "Fake Out - Bedroom Version"
Why Bonnie — the NYC-via-Texas band fronted by Blair Howerton — returns today to present “Fake Out - Bedroom Version” — an acoustic reimagining of the “bold” (Stereogum) lead single from 2024’s Wish on the Bone LP — and announces The Bedroom EP, out July 25th via Fire Talk. Wish on the Bone marked Why Bonnie’s Fire Talk debut, and earned the band praise from Pitchfork, Stereogum, Consequence, UPROXX and more. Following its release, Why Bonnie embarked on a slew of tour dates and closed the year with a moving rendition of Blaze Foley’s “Rainbows and Ridges.” In addition, Why Bonnie announce a free hometown performance on Friday, June 20th at NYC's Bryant Park.
The Bedroom collects three newly-recorded acoustic reworks —including today’s “Fake Out - Bedroom Version,” and a demo of a new composition. With nothing more than Howerton & her guitar, “Fake Out - Bedroom Version” version doubles down on her "poignant lyricism, which flips from vulnerable to assured on a moment’s notice" (Pitchfork). Stripping back the production on this newly-recorded track puts Why Bonnie's "massive hooks" (Paste) on full-display, giving the space for her “tender songwriting” (FLOOD) to command full attention.
Tour Dates
Fri. June 20 - New York, NY @ Bryant Park [Emerging Music Festival]

Wish On The Bone' is Why Bonnie's sophomore LP and debut for Fire Talk. It's untethered from any landscape or genre, propelled by this freedom and resulting in Why Bonnie's most catchy, hopeful body of work to-date. Ranging from twangy country infused rock jams to more intimate and lo-fi arrangements, ‘Wish on the Bone’ is wide-eyed and waiting. It’s a coming of age film in which the protagonist rejects the forces that have tried, and failed, to shape her into something other than herself. It leaves you with a hard-fought sense of hope, which is among songwriter Blair Howerton’s greatest gifts. “You owe it to the people who are experiencing the worst to just keep pushing,” Howerton says. That’s the throughline of “Wish On The Bone”, a record that rewards with repeated listens.
